Parent Participation Each family, who participates in the Cooperative, is expected to make a commitment to their fellow homeschoolers for the semester in which they are enrolled. In order to participate families must commit to being a member of WNHEN, to paying the annual membership fee and paying any class fees. Parents are expected to actively participate and assist with the duties that are required to make the Cooperative run. Here is a list of tasks that need done on a weekly basis and how families volunteer or are assigned these tasks: 1. TEACHERS: Without teachers we don't have a Cooperative. If you would like to teach a class simply attend the planning session, dates are posted on this website, and sign-up to teach. You may teach one class or several classes. It is assumed that anyone who volunteers to teach a class is making a commitment to WNHEN, to the families involved and most importantly to their students to participate in the Cooperative on a weekly basis. Additional information about teaching a class during the Cooperative can be found in the Parent/Student Handbook. 2. KITCHEN CREW: The kitchen crew oversees the entire kitchen and Pot Luck on a weekly basis. The kitchen crew typically arrive before parents start bringing in their pot-luck items and are often the last ones to leave after the morning session has finished. Due to space issues in the kitchen the board of directors has limited the number of the kitchen crew to four. Participants who have previously served on the kitchen crew have top priority for these positions. 3. NURSERY & TODDLER ASSISTANTS: Parents who are not teaching morning classes may be assigned a week or two in the nursery and/or toddler rooms each semester. Assistants are expected to be available throughout the morning session to assist the Nursery and Toddler Monitors. Assistants should plan on arriving 15 minutes early on the day they are scheduled to help set-up the classroom and will be asked to assist the monitors with clean-up duties after the morning session ends as well. Your job during the Cooperative day is to oversee the nursery or toddler youth and to maintain the general well-being of each child enrolled in that classroom. You will also be responsible for seeing that the classroom is in a safe, clean, orderly fashion for the safety of the children using it. 4. GENERAL HOUSEKEEPING TASKS: Parents may also be assigned general housekeeping tasks before, during and after the Cooperative day. In order to have a successful cooperative we need families who are willing to help with some of the less pleasant chores. Everything from shoveling the sidewalk to cleaning the restrooms need tended to each week. With everyone's help we can have a productive Cooperative. |
